Overisel Township is a civil township of Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Overisel is the birthplace of mathematician George David Birkhoff, best known for what is now called the "ergodic theory". ==Communities== * Overisel is tightly knit community found in the far western part of the Overisel Twp and was settled in 1848 by Dutch immigrants consisting of only 12 families at the time. The village consist of 2 Churches (Reformed and Christian Reformed)as well as a feed mill and dozens of family-own farms.〔Overisel Reformed Church Historical Society〕 * Benthiem is also a Dutch community that was also settled in the Mid 1800s. Benthiem is found near the Rabbit River on the far Eastern edge of the Township 〔 * Drenthe is a Dutch community that was first settled by Jan Hulst in 1847.
